again, i went for taken by cars. and i was hoping i'd get to meet the jocks, especially Hilary, with whom i shared many a sleepless night when she was still at KLITE, and when KLITE still existed on air (of course it will always exist in me). and if you know me personally, you probably know how i followed Hilary. (did that just sound stalker-ish?)
so anyway, i guess i was one with the universe because i did meet her! so, aside from the fact that we couldn't get in the "inner core"of the crowd, the night was rocking for me because of that. because i finally met Hilary.
i remember her telling me i should drop by the station (KLITE) sometime so we could hang out and "talk about our travails as PK's" those, i believe, where her exact words. that, of course, never did happen. and it would take her to move to JAM and be present at the Music Fest for us to finally meet in person.
boy was i shaking! ehehe.. i did not know how to approach her, or what i should say, so me and my sister followed her for a good 30 seconds before i actually got the nerve to say,
"Excuse me, Hilary? Uhh---do you still remember me?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I don't---"
"I'm PK James from KLITE---"
and it rang a bell and she remembers me! of course, i'm not sure if those were the exact words because i was too busy being nervous and all.
boy, that was the best moment in my recent history!
we took pictures and i continued to tremble.
that totally rocked my night!
as for the rest of the evening, the bands were great, save for the former Science. and of course, taken by cars was there!
on top of everything i was with my best bud, with Rizza, withmy sister, her cool friend, my fellow genius cousin ---sure, we could've tagged along more people, but at least we still had fun. i know i did!
this is probably the most embarrassing thing i've willingly done to date.
but, in this day and age of internet memes scattered on all places such as YouTube, it's hard to avoid the trend rubbing off on you.
so here's my shot at it.
i've always wanted to do one from the time i saw Milk and Cereal.
but it would take me to listen to Pedicab, Taken by Cars and Sandwich to go ahead and do it.
as stated on the description of this video on my YouTube Channel, this is unlike most internet video memes where (almost always) two guys sit in front of a webcam, lipsync to a cheesy song, and act crazy.
i have my own way of doing it, i guess.
which may also mean the video is boring.
so, if you have nothing better to do, go on and watch it.
don't say i didn't warn you.
(oh, and, i'm sort of planning to make more. haha.)
so everytime i see this PEPSI ad on an old issue of GQ (the one with Heath Ledger on the cover), it always draws me in.
it's no secret that PEPSI and COKE have been battling it out in terms of graphically positioning their names in the market, and in our memories, no less. (ever seen the PEPSI mural on C5?)
and i must admit, COKE has always been a forerunner in this one.
but sometimes, i just have to hand it over to PEPSI for going alternative. i mean, COKE usually plays the in-your-face advertising card. and PEPSI silently surprises visual puppies like me.
that's not the issue, though.
back to that magazine ad, it looked really street-art-ish. the kind i like seeing these days. which is why i stare at that ad for as long as i wish. it looks a little something like this:
(i couldn't rip the ad from some website as of this writing, and i'm too damned lazy to scan, so)
imagine: in shades of blue, red, and white, of course. and with music in the theme.
(hey this looks like the cover of Sandwich's Five on the Floor!)
see, he posted a journal about being hired (their batch graduated this year, BFA-TUP also) and he posted this link about a cool animation he saw.
so i checked it out and found out it's a film animation project on Zune Arts.
all i know about the Zune was that Microsoft desperately wooed and courted a lot of indie bands to get its then up-and-coming media player associated with the Indie scene.
now, about how successful Microsoft was in competing with Apple and if their record-breaking deals with big record labels gave them any advantage in this market is a different story.
the point here is that they were pretty successful in associating the Zune with the Indie scene.
an ad on Fader would prove me that.
and from then on, i swore on my little black book that:
anyway, so now, they're apparently into artists too---visual artists, at that.
The 4th Music Fest of Jam 88.3 featuring: bamboo + chicosci + imago + itchyworms + jumping jacks + junior kilat + kenyo + kitchie nadal + moonstar88 + paraluman + parokya ni edgar + pedicab + pupil + rivermaya + session road + sugarfree + taken by cars + the out of body special + typecast + urbandub + and more...
they did not disappoint, save for the bands that naturally suck , and whose names will not be mentioned for this shoe-gazer's fear of seven years bad luck.
needless to say, these same bands that suck were the ones the ing posers and the filthy emo kids slammed about for. pathetic really. i mean, who would want to mosh like mad over a band who promotes the night's official drink? apparently, posers would. (as expected)
so much for filthiness and suckiness, like i said, most of the bands were rocking hot!
Line-up of bands: - Jeepney Joyride (always fun to see live) - Top Junk (cool surprise!) - Taken By Cars (the reason for it all) - *those we don't speak of* - *those we don't speak of* (where did ChicoScience go?) - Cambio (Diego Mapa No.1) - Pedicab (Diego Mapa No.2 Yeah!) - Sandwich (antaba ni Raymond!) (15 bands total, these were the only ones we cared about)
" But the most surprising thing involved one of those bags. Days after the show, the blogosphere was busily buzzing about it: The large, ostrich leather tote with sunray designs spreading across one side was called “BB”—and it turned out that the name came from Jacobs’ favorite blog, BryanBoy, a deliciously funny read obsessed with all things fashion, especially the blogger’s favorite designer, Marc Jacobs. The bag will retail this September for $1,295 in leather and $4,800 for the ostrich version.
“Love your passion for fashion—after all, where would designers be without enthusiasm like yours?” Jacobs is quoted on the 19-year-old Manila-based blogger’s homepage.
As a powerhouse designer and one of the key figures on our Brilliant List, Jacobs, who is notorious for running late (his shows rarely start on time), would seem to have little time to read blogs. But as the internet has taken on a greater role in fashion, from live video of the runways to up-to-the-minute perspective and commentary on the latest trends, it has become an essential source for designers. Besides BryanBoy, Jacobs also makes a point of reading the more serious On the Runway, the fashion industry blog from New York Times writer Cathy Horyn. " and, unfortunately, as of this writing, i couldn't find a snapshot of that blog-buzz-worthy bag.
but, the important thing is that we have something else to be proud of these days.
aside from the ever-growing presence of Filipinos on YouTube, (encompassing all categories from Music to Downright Disturbing and Ridiculous), BryanBoy puts something out there no other Filipino can.
and the world reads.
the world notices.
and now, the world has the bag to prove it.
so chin up kababayans, because hell, these days, there are lots of reasons we can BB proud to BB Pinoy!
after watching Episode 22, and getting disappointed by the unavailability of Episode 23 on DeathNote TV,
AND after finding a decent torrent to download Episodes 23 & 24 just to realize it would take longer to complete the download than it would a 700+MB movie like Final Destination 3,
i just had to, HAD TO find something on YouTube that would help me get over my unprecedented DeathNote irritation.
this is a video first posted by Hilary here on multiply. i have read her fellow Jam jockPatti's blog about the A New Earth issue and how it has raised questions about Oprah, but seeing this video shed a new light to what has been the most interesting story this year has brought so far.
pardon the low video quality and mediocre editing. the excuse? read: - not enough hard drive space to use Adobe Premiere Pro 2 - Nero Vision 4 (movie maker) cannot handle photos---or i haven't figured it out yet, but my sister has and she doesn't remember how! - ergo, i opted for an even more mediocre-average-user-video-editing-software that is Windows Movie Maker
so, there goes video quality along with the .WMV extension!
anyway, hope it still looks like a legitimate video. hehe.
the peeps in the video who are also here on multiply are (click click!): - Rizza - Cheenie - Raffy - Karding - Jamie

I roll the window down And then begin to breathe in The darkest country road And the strong scent of evergreen From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
Then looking upwards I strain my eyes and try To tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
"Do they collide?" I ask and you smile.
With my feet on the dash The world doesn't matter.
When you feel embarrassed then I'll be your pride When you need directions then I'll be the guide
For all time. For all time.
A little video I captured on the long drive home. You've seen the stills, now see the video.
